Welcome to International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO)
Multidisciplinary work is accepted only when directly relevant to musculoskeletal health, orthopaedic treatment, mobility, function or recovery in older adults.
The International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO) publishes high-quality research, reviews, clinical studies, methodological work, and scholarly discussion that improve musculoskeletal health and orthopaedic care in older adults. Core topics include fragility fractures, osteoporosis and bone health, arthroplasty, geriatric spine care, trauma, perioperative optimization, frailty and sarcopenia, falls, rehabilitation, pain, mobility, functional outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, orthogeriatric co-management, health services, prevention, implementation science, technology, and surgical innovation relevant to ageing populations.
Multidisciplinary submissions from geriatrics, anaesthesia, rehabilitation, psychology/psychiatry, oncology, nutrition, nursing, public health, policy, law or allied fields are considered when they have a clear and substantive relationship to musculoskeletal health, orthopaedic care, mobility, function, recovery, or the care pathway of older adults.
IJGO does not publish general orthopaedic, sports-injury, trauma or surgical manuscripts focused on children, adolescents or younger adults unless the work directly answers a geriatric/ageing question or includes a clearly justified older-adult comparative component. Manuscripts that are primarily non-musculoskeletal and do not materially inform orthogeriatric care are outside scope.
IJGO invites original research, multicentre studies, registries, systematic reviews, implementation science, clinical trials, outcomes research and high-quality clinical innovation addressing musculoskeletal health in older adults. Priority themes include hip and fragility fractures, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, spine care, arthroplasty, falls, perioperative optimization, rehabilitation, patient-reported outcomes, digital/robotic innovation, care pathways and health systems. Submissions from all countries are welcomed and undergo the same independent peer-review standards.
The International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO) welcomes original contributions that align with the journal’s scope and objectives. All submissions must be prepared according to the following format and guidelines to ensure a smooth review and publication process.
IJGO accepts the following categories of submissions: Original Research Articles – Clinical, experimental, or epidemiological studies with clear methodology and analysis. Review Articles – Comprehensive, critical appraisals of topics relevant to geriatric orthopedics. Case Reports / Case Series – Reports highlighting unique, rare, or instructive clinical cases. Technical Notes / Surgical Innovations – Brief reports on new techniques or modifications of existing procedures. Editorials, Commentaries, and Perspectives – By invitation or special approval. Letters to the Editor – Short discussions or critiques related to previously published content.
