Reviewer Guidelines & Ethical Obligations

Peer reviewers play a pivotal role in ensuring the scientific integrity, clinical relevance, and methodological rigor of research published in the International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO).

Requirement 3.3

Reviewer Confidentiality and AI Policy

Peer review is confidential. Reviewers must not share manuscripts or unpublished data. Reviewers and editors must not upload submitted manuscripts, figures, tables, data or identifiable excerpts into public or third-party generative-AI systems where confidentiality cannot be assured.

Any permitted editorial tool must be approved by IJGO, used under appropriate confidentiality safeguards, and remain subject to human responsibility. Reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and decline assignments when impartial review is not possible.

Key Evaluation Criteria

When assessing manuscripts, reviewers are asked to evaluate:

  • Originality & Novelty: Does the manuscript provide new clinical or scientific insights in geriatric orthopedics?
  • Methodological Rigor: Are study design, sample size, control groups, and statistical analyses valid and clearly reported?
  • Clinical Relevance: How directly does the work inform orthogeriatric patient care, surgical outcomes, mobility, or rehabilitation?
  • Ethical Integrity: Are institutional ethics committee approvals, informed consent, and trial registrations clearly documented?
  • Clarity & Reporting Standards: Is the text written in clear English and compliant with relevant reporting guidelines (CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE)?

Review Workflow & Timelines

  • Review Model: Double-anonymized peer review (author and reviewer identities are mutually concealed).
  • Timeliness: Reviewers are requested to submit their evaluation within 2 to 3 weeks of accepting an invitation.
  • Declining Assignments: If unable to review within the timeline or if a conflict of interest exists, please notify the handling editor promptly.
  • Constructive Feedback: Reviews should provide specific, polite, and actionable suggestions to help authors improve their work.
